Police Seek Public’s Help Identifying Burglary Suspect
Newark Public Safety Director Fritz Fragé requests the public’s help identifying the suspect pictured below, who stole jewelry from a business on September 6, 2024.
At noon, the suspect walked up to Vinhas Jewelry in the 80 block of Ferry Street and broke the store’s front window with a small black hammer. The suspect, a Black male in his late 30s, reached through the small hole he created and grabbed several pieces of jewelry before fleeing.
The suspect, 6 ft. tall with a medium build and a receding hairline, was captured on surveillance video wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt, blue sweatpants, black shoes, and a black ski mask during the burglary. Moments later, the suspect removed the ski mask and changed clothes on Congress Street, leaving them on the sidewalk. He was then observed wearing a black shirt, khaki pants, and black shoes as he fled the scene.
Director Fragé urges anyone with information about the suspect’s identity to call the Police Division’s 24-hour Crime Stopper tip line at 1-877-NWK-TIPS (1-877-695-8477).
