On Saturday, August 31, 2024, Culver City Police responded to a report of an attempted armed robbery at the 5800 block of Green Valley Circle. The suspect had brandished a firearm at an ATM location, demanded money, and threatened to shoot the victim. When the victim ran into a bank location for safety, the suspect followed and then eventually exited the area. Officers immediately launched an investigation to locate the suspect involved.
Culver City detectives have identified the suspect, who was believed to be responsible, and worked quickly to locate her. On Friday, September 6, 2024, the Culver City Emergency Response and Crisis Negotiation Teams and Unmanned Aerial Vehicle operators worked to bring the suspect into custody. Multiple requests were made for the suspect to exit the residence where she had been located, to no avail. After a dialogue was established between the suspect and the Crisis Negotiation Team, the suspect, Mattie Harris of Inglewood, was safely brought into custody.
On Tuesday, September 10, 2024, Culver City Police Detectives presented the case to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office for filing. Suspect Harris was charged with one count of first-degree robbery and felon in possession of ammunition.

Culver City Police responded to the 5800 block of Green Valley Circle at 12:28 pm on Saturday, August 31, to the report of an attempted armed robbery. When officers arrived on the scene, they were notified that the crime had occurred at approximately 11:18 am.
Preliminary investigation indicates that the victim was approached at an ATM by the suspect, who told her, “Put all the money inside the bag or I’ll shoot.” When the victim turned, she saw the suspect directing a firearm at her. In fear for her life, the victim ran inside the bank location. The suspect followed the victim into the bank and then left the area. The suspect is described as a female Black adult approximately sixty years old with a medium build, reddish-orange curly hair, wearing a light blue tank top, shorts, sunglasses, and carrying a purse or bag armed with a black firearm.
