Arrest made in investigation of threat of school violence.

On 09/11/2024, later in the evening, officers with the Petaluma Police Department were able to identify the suspect that allegedly made the threats towards both Casa Grande High School and Petaluma High School.
The suspect was determined to be a 14-year-old Petaluma resident. He was contacted at his home and was taken into custody for criminal threats. A search of his residence was conducted, and no firearm was located.
The suspect was later booked at Juvenile Hall without incident. Please refer to the original press release listed below for the original incident details. Due to the suspect’s age, his name will not be released.
Petaluma Police and the Petaluma City School Districts take all threats very seriously. We will continue to work dilligently and cooperatively to apprehend those responsible. School safety and providing a safe place for children and young adults to thrive on safe campuses is of paramount importance.

On 09/11/2024, the Petaluma Police Department became aware of a threat made directed at Casa Grande High School and Petaluma High School, that an act of violence would occur on a Friday afternoon. The Petaluma Police Department became aware of the threat via the STOP IT application.
Shortly after we were notified via STOP IT, the police department’s dispatch center began receiving calls from concerned parents and students regarding a social media post that had already been reported via the STOP IT application to the police department.
Outside of the social media post, there has been no information that leads us to believe that the threat is credible. However, the Petaluma Police Department treats all threats seriously and will be diligently investigating the incident thoroughly. We are currently working with the Petaluma City Schools administration to address any safety concerns and coordinate officer’s presence in the various schools.
The Petaluma Police Department will be providing extra police presence at each of the involved schools as much as possible for the coming days. We encourage anyone who has information on who may be responsible for the threat to contact the Petaluma Police Department at 707-778-4372.
