PRESS RELEASE: Shooting Suspects Apprehended
INCIDENT LOCATION: 600 Block Whipple Avenue, Redwood City
DATE/TIME: August 3, 2024, 5:11 P.M.
On 08/03/2024, at approximately 5:11 P.M., Redwood City Police Officers responded to the 600 block of Whipple Avenue, in Redwood City, on a report of a fight involving a group of subjects. Moments later, there were additional reports of gunshots fired. Through investigation, Officers learned that two subjects went to a nearby business and initiated a fight with an employee. Co-workers came to the aid of the victim and were able to overpower the suspects. The suspects eventually drew a firearm and began chasing the victims while firing multiple shots at them. Fortunately, no one was struck by gunfire, nor seriously injured during the incident. The suspects fled the scene prior to police arrival and were outstanding at the time of the initial investigation. Responding Officers recovered multiple spent bullet casings and obtained evidence that ultimately aided in the identification of the suspects, along with a related suspect vehicle.
The Redwood City Police Department’s Street Crime Suppression Team assumed the investigation and identified Redwood City residents, and brothers, Jaime Ontiverosalvarez (25) and Raul Ontiverosalvarez (27) as the suspects who had initiated the fight and shot at the victim and his co-workers. The investigation revealed that the violent engagement was the result of an ongoing dispute between the suspects and the victim.
On 09/12/2024, the Redwood City Police Department’s Street Crime Suppression Team, the Investigations Unit and the Special Response Team executed a search warrant in the 800 block of Palm Avenue in Redwood City. Jaime Ontiverosalvarez and Raul Ontiverosalvarez were detained nearby and ultimately placed under arrest.
During the arrest of Raul Ontiverosalvarez, a loaded firearm was found concealed on his person. Detectives located additional ammunition and equipment related to firearms during the execution of the search warrant.
Both suspects were ultimately booked into the Maguire Correctional Facility. Jaime was booked for 1 felony violation of Penal Code 664/187 - Attempted Murder, while Raul was booked for 2 felony violations: Penal Code 664/187 – Attempted Murder, Penal Code 25800(a) – Carry Firearm with Intent to Commit Felony and 1 misdemeanor violation of Penal Code 25850(a) – Carry Loaded Firearm on Person.
