The Amarillo PD has received numerous calls from citizens about someone claiming to be a Detective or Lieutenant Brooke from the Amarillo PD. We do NOT have any officer/detective/LT with that name. This is a SCAM.
We want to remind everyone that we will not call you and ask for money over the phone. We won't threaten you for money over the phone. We won't ask for payment by gift card or bitcoin or anything over the phone.
We encourage anyone who receives a call like these, to hang up and contact your local law enforcement agency directly. Don't ask the caller for the number and don't call them back. Look up the number and call and confirm before you give ANY information about yourself over the phone.
These Scammers are tricky and they will steal everything from you.
