A suspect driving a stolen vehicle tries to flee from police before being arrested
San Mateo, CA – On September 13, 2024, at 3:45 a.m., San Mateo Police Department was notified officers from the California Highway Patrol was in pursuit of a stolen vehicle. The suspect was driving south on Highway 101 and not stopping for CHP officers.
The suspect, later identified as Jose Antunez, exited Highway 101 on Poplar Avenue and continued to evade police driving recklessly throughout San Mateo. Our officers responded to the area and found the stolen vehicle, a white Ford F250, near Central Park. Antunez then drove through Central Park and sped away from SMPD officers. Our officers pursued Antunez as he recklessly drove the stolen vehicle through the downtown area and north on San Mateo Drive. Due to the reckless driving of Antunez, officers lost sight of the stolen vehicle and stopped pursuing Antunez as he drove into the city of Burlingame.
SMPD officers again searched the area for the stolen vehicle and located it parked on Carmelita Drive. Antunez had exited the vehicle and officers found him less than two blocks away walking away from the stolen vehicle.
Officers located evidence inside of the stolen truck and Antunez was arrested for possession of a stolen vehicle, evading police, and committing a felony while on bail. Antunez was transported and booked into San Mateo County Jail.
