Deputies Locate $1.5 Million in Marijuana During Traffic Stop in Pinon Hills
DATE/TIME: September 13, 2024, at approximately 9:21 p.m.

LOCATION: 1500 Block of Hollister Road, Pinon Hills, California
SUSPECT 1: Michael Marquez, 33-year-old resident of Pinon Hills SUSPECT 2: Asa Williams, 30-year-old resident of Bullhead City, Arizona

SUMMARY: On Friday, September 13, 2024, deputies conducted security patrols in the evacuated areas of the Bridge Fire in the city of Pinion Hills. As deputies patrolled the area, they observed a Chevrolet Suburban towing a trailer with no tail lights and flat tires near the intersection of Hollister Road.
Deputies conducted a traffic stop and made contact with the driver, later identified as Asa Williams. Williams was being followed by a second vehicle, acting as a look out being driven by Michael Marquez. During the traffic stop, deputies smelled a strong odor of cannabis and inquired about the smell. Through investigation, deputies located approximately 500 processed marijuana plants in the trailer of the vehicle.
Investigtors from the San Bernardino County Marijuana Enforcement Team (MET) were advised and responded to the scene and assumed the investigation. During the course of the investigation, they developed information regurding a possible additional marijuana grow in the area.Investigators authored a search warrant for a residence located on the 1700 block of Trinity Road and served it without incident.
During the service of the search warrant, they located an indoor grow with over 700 marijuana plants and 1300 lbs of processed marijuana. The estimated street value of the items recovered was approximately $1.5 M. Williams and Marquez were arrested for the above charges and booked at the High Desert Detention Center without further incident.
