Deputies Locate 78-year-old Woman Stranded in Her Home During the Bridge Fire and Take Her to Safety

VICTIM(S): 78-year-old Female Resident
SUMMARY: On Tuesday, September 10, 2024, at approximately 10:p.m., deputies from the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department assigned to the Bridge Fire evacuation area in Wrightwood responded to a call for service involving a 78-year-old female resident who was stranded in her home. The caller advised dispatch the elderly resident was not able to leave her home and did not have a vehicle.
Deputies assigned to the area conducting emergency evacuations responded to the call and located the frightened woman inside her home. Deputies assisted her by gathering some belongings, her pet cat and quickly escorted her to an emergency vehicle. Deputies transported her away from the danger area on fire behind her home and provided assistance, relocating her to safety.
The elderly woman was very appreciative for the help during a critical incident and thanked deputies for their quick response and presence in the area. Firefighters in the area were able to protect her home from the large fire headed toward her residence.
