Update: Suspect Arrested Following Large Police Presence on S. Baird Street; Streets Reopened
The Green Bay Police Department has arrested a 26-year-old Green Bay man following a large police presence on the 800 block of S. Baird Street on Monday, September 16, 2024.
At approximately 5:45 p.m., officers took the suspect into custody without further incident.
Earlier in the day, the suspect was witnessed making threatening gestures at officers who were in the area speaking with neighbors on previously reported disturbances. Those occurred on Thursday, September 12, 2024, and Sunday, September 15, 2024, causing safety concerns.
Due to the overall situation, additional officers had been dispatched on Monday around 12:45 p.m. to take the suspect into custody on criminal charges.
GBPD SWAT and Crisis Negotiation Team responded to the scene to assist as the suspect had proceeded to barricade himself inside his residence, refusing to come out despite police orders. With no surrender, SWAT along with K9 were forced to enter the home to make the arrest.
The GBPD will be referring charges to the Brown County District Attorney’s Office.
On this call, we were assisted by the Brown County Sheriff's Office SWAT team and the Green Bay Metro Fire Department. Also, Green Bay Metro had provided a bus as a cooling station for officers. We thank all who had responded for their support.
The closed streets in the area have been reopened. We thank the public for their patience and understanding as we worked to resolve this matter.
No further details are planned for release at this time.
