Take Five Briefing – 9/17
Here is the latest Take Five briefing from the September 17, 2024 meeting of the Mayor and Borough Council.
1) SuperFresh Grand Opening this Friday, September 20th – The Mayor and Borough Council were pleased to announce that Highland Park’s much-anticipated SuperFresh grocery store will be opening on Friday, Sept. 20th, with a ribbon cutting scheduled for 10:00 am. All are welcome to attend. SuperFresh has promised that the grand opening celebration will feature samples, demos, special sales, as well as refreshments and entertainment for the whole family. We hope to see you there!
2) Communications Survey – Mayor Foster encouraged residents to complete the Public Information Committee’s communications survey to help the Borough learn more about how people hear about local news and what issues interest them most. The survey is all of 10 questions and should take three minutes or less to complete. The Public Information Committee will be holding a drawing to randomly award four (4) gift cards to people who participate in this survey. Please be sure to complete the survey and pass it on to your neighbors.
3) Road Project on Denison Street, Harper Street and No. 4th Avenue – The Borough Council approved a resolution to award a bid to Fischer Contracting for the resurfacing and reconstruction of Denison Street from No. 2nd to No. 5th Avenues, Harper Street from So. 1st to So. 4th Avenues, and No. 4th Avenue from Denison Street to Raritan Avenue. The project is funded by a grant from the New Jersey Department of Transportation and construction is expected to take place this Fall.
4) Public Safety Ordinances – The Borough Council introduced an ordinance to make the intersection at Cleveland and Madison Avenues by the newly completed Yeshiva Shaarei Tzion School an all-way stop. They also introduced an ordinance to amend the Borough’s regulation of on-street accessible parking spaces, adding flexibility to better meet the needs of our residents that require accessible parking. The public hearing for both ordinances is set for Tuesday, October 1st, at the regularly scheduled Mayor and Borough Council meeting.
5) 2025 Tree Planting Bid – The Borough Council approved a resolution that authorizing bids for the Spring 2025 tree planting. The annual planting, developed in close collaboration with the Shade Tree Advisory Committee, is critical to the implementation of Highland Park’s Community Forestry Management Plan. Residents that would like to have a tree planted in the right-of-way in front of their home are encouraged to fill out an online request form.
