DETAILS: On Wednesday, September 18, 2024, at approximately 4:37 PM, officers from the Amarillo Police Department were dispatched to the 2200 block of SW 7th in response to reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, officers discovered that Anthony Dewayne Dunn, 40-year-old male, had suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced deceased at the scene by emergency medical services.
The suspect fled the scene on foot, and the APD Homicide Unit began an investigation. Through diligent investigative efforts, a suspect was identified, leading to the issuance of a murder warrant for 25-year-old Keon Trashone Mathis.
In the early morning hours of September 19, 2024, Mathis was apprehended during a traffic stop in Childress, TX, by the Childress Police Department. He was booked into the Childress County Detention Center.
