Deputies Conducting Investigation into Fatal Collision between a Vehicle and Pedestrian

INCIDENT: Fatal Traffic Collision
LOCATION: Foothill Boulevard / Orchard Plaza, Rancho Cucamonga
Driver: Daniel Schultz, 45-year-old male from Ontario, California
Pedestrian: Anna Cunerty, 65-year-old female from Rancho Cucamonga, California
SUMMARY: On September 18, 2024, at about 8:20 p.m., deputies from the Rancho Cucamonga Police Department responded to a traffic collision involving a pedestrian and a vehicle on Foothill Boulevard, near the intersection of Orchard Plaza.
A Buick Envision driven by Daniel Schultz traveled west on Foothill Boulevard in the number one lane approaching Orchard Plaza. As Schultz approached the intersection, his vehicle collided into Anna Cunerty, who was crossing the roadway outside of a crosswalk. American Medical Response (AMR) and the Rancho Cucamonga Fire District performed life-saving measures at the scene. Cunerty was transported to a local hospital. Despite life-saving efforts, Cunerty was later pronounced deceased.
Deputies E. Arechiga and M. McDonald from the Rancho Cucamonga Police Department’s Major Accident Investigation Team responded and assumed the investigation. The cause of the crash is under investigation.
