Jersey City MUA water main work to impact traffic in southern sections of Hoboken; RBD closure of 15th Street continues;Use public transit
Work on the Jersey City Municipal Utility Authority (JCMUA) water main interconnection project will resume the week of Monday, Sept. 23. This work, to upgrade infrastructure that provides clean drinking water to residents of Hoboken and Jersey City, will require temporary road closures and parking restrictions in Hoboken.
On Monday, Sept. 23, and Tuesday, Sept. 24, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., contractors will be test pitting at the intersection of Observer Highway and Henderson Street. During test pitting operations, Newark Street will be closed in both directions between Madison Street and Henderson Street/Marin Boulevard. Eastbound traffic will detour onto Grove Street and Madison Street. Westbound traffic will detour onto Henderson Street.
Henderson Street/Marin Boulevard will also be closed in the northbound direction during work hours on Monday and Tuesday. Traffic coming into Hoboken from Jersey City will be re-routed onto Grove Street. The southbound lanes of Henderson Street/Marin Boulevard, leaving Hoboken, will remain open.
On Wednesday, Sept. 25, from 9 a.m. to 4p.m., contractors will be excavating on Newark Street between Madison Street and Henderson Street. During this operation, the eastbound lanes of Newark Street will be closed between Grove Street and Henderson Street. Eastbound traffic will detour onto Jackson Street and Grove Street. Westbound lanes will remain open.
On Thursday, Sept. 26, and Friday Sept. 27, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., contractors will be excavating and installing insertion valves within the parking lane of Observer Highway east of Henderson Street. During work hours, the eastbound and westbound lanes will remain open, but will be shifted. There will be parking restrictions on Observer Highway. Temporary No-Parking signs will be posted ahead of time.
Oversized truck traffic will be re-routed during this project. Police officers will be positioned at impacted intersections to assist with truck detours.
Hoboken and Jersey City Police Officers will be on site to assist with detours, traffic control, and pedestrian safety. Detour and variable messaging signs will also be in place ahead of the closures.
Residents are reminded this JCMUA project is being executed concurrently with the Rebuild by Design - Hudson River project in northern Hoboken in which a portion of 15 Street is closed 24/7.
