NEWARK POLICE INVESTIGATE FATAL TRAFFIC COLLISION

Newark, California (Thursday, September 19, 2024)  

On Thursday, September 19, 2024, at approximately 8:32am, Newark Police Officers and members of the Alameda County Fire Department responded to the 38000 block of Cherry Street for a collision involving a vehicle and a bicyclist. Upon arrival, emergency personnel located a bicyclist in the roadway and immediately rendered aid. Unfortunately, the bicyclist, a 60-year-old male out of Tracy, succumbed to his injuries. 

Preliminary information indicates the bicyclist was traveling southbound on Cherry Street in the bicycle lane when he was struck by a vehicle making a left turn from northbound Cherry Street into a driveway. The driver remained on scene and is cooperative. This collision is currently under investigation by the Newark Police Department Traffic Unit. 

The victim’s identity has not been released, pending notification of next of kin.

This is Newark’s second fatal collision in 2024.
