At 9:30 PM on September 19, 2024, the Norton Shores Police Department received a complaint of a potential school threat at the Mona Shores High School. The investigation identified the threat was made by a former student who currently attends Grand Haven High School. Detectives interviewed the suspect and lodged them at the Muskegon County Juvenile Detention Center. Since the suspect is a juvenile, no further information will be released about them.
The Norton Shores Police Department immediately notified Mona Shores school officials and Grand Haven school officials. Investigators worked with the school administration throughout the night to ensure the safety of the students and staff. No immediate risk was identified at either school. In collaboration with school officials, it was determined that it was safe for all schools to remain open today.
The Norton Shores Police Department was assisted in the investigation by Mona Shores School District, Grand Haven School District, and the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office.
The investigation is still ongoing.
