| On September 17, 2024, numerous suspects were arrested in reference to a stabbing that occurred within the city of Moorpark on September 7, 2024. On September 7, 2024, at approximately 11:47 PM, Ventura County Sheriff’s Dispatch received a call of a stabbing that occurred within the city of Moorpark in the area of Park Crest Lane and S Moorpark Avenue. Moorpark patrol station deputies responded to the area and learned multiple suspects physically assaulted two victims, one of which was stabbed during the assault. Numerous detectives responded to the scene and immediately launched an investigation to identify the suspects responsible. Over the next week, the suspects were identified as Moorpark residents Sergio Lazaro (age 28), Bernardo Nunez (age 27), and Michael Gutierrez (age 48). On 9/17/2024, East County Investigations Major Crimes Detectives, East County Special Enforcement Unit (SEU) Detectives, East County Investigations Property Crimes Detectives, Moorpark Special Enforcement Unit (SEU) Detectives, and Moorpark Police Station Detectives conducted a joint operation to serve numerous search warrants and locate/arrest the suspects. During the operation, all three suspects were taken into custody and evidence related to the crime was recovered. In addition, during the same operation, another Moorpark resident, Cesar Lazaro (age 26) was arrested for firearm related violations. The Ventura County District Attorney’s Office filed numerous felony charges against Sergio Lazaro, Bernardo Nunez, and Michael Gutierrez that included: PC 243(d) – Battery with serious bodily injury, PC 245(a)(1) – Assault with a deadly weapon, PC 245(a)(4) – Assault with force likely to produce serious bodily injury, and PC 594(b)(1) – Vandalism causing over $400.00 in property damage. The Ventura County District Attorney’s Office filed felony charges against Cesar Lazaro that included PC 27545 – Unlawful transfer of a firearm and PC 29800(a)(1) – Possession of a firearm by a felon or addict. All four suspects remain in custody with upcoming court dates.
