Newark, California (Sunday, September 22, 2024)
On Saturday, September 21, 2024, Newark Police Department personnel were providing directed patrols at the Newark Days Carnival, taking place in the area of Cedar Boulevard and Chapman Drive. At approximately 10:13 p.m., as the carnival closed for the evening, officers responded to a report of a disturbance with an individual possibly armed with a firearm in an area adjacent to the carnival. As a group of reportedly involved persons fled on foot, officers gave chase and ultimately detained the individuals. No firearm was found, and no evidence of a shooting was discovered. As a result, the individuals were released without further action.
At about 11:00 p.m., Newark Police personnel responded to a report of three individuals trespassing in the backyard of a residence on Cedar Boulevard near Dupont Avenue.
