South Brunswick Police Department would like to thank all those who came out this weekend and participated in Child ID Day and Cram the Cruiser. The two events held at the Municipal Building saw over 150 parents receive kids’ identification cards and more than 250 people come out to donate food. Lieutenant Dennis Yuhasz, the head of the Community Policing Bureau, said the turnout was tremendous. “This is the first time we did Cram the Cruiser and the outpouring of support was tremendous. We filled three police SUVs with donated food,” said Lt. Yuhasz. All the donated food was given to the South Brunswick Food Pantry.
Child ID Day is an annual event, but this year saw the largest number of participants in the last five years. The ID card is the size of a credit card and includes a photo, physical description, thumbprint, and emergency response procedures. It enables parents to immediately provide authorities with the identifying features of the child in a condensed format when other documents containing this information might not be readily available. SRO Detective Scott Bucca said, “Time is important in an emergency and these cards provide parents with a quick resource.” "It was a total team effort to make the day a success," said Lt Yuhasz. He credited Amber Redfield, Leah Haas, PFC Ryan Bartunek, Det Scott Bucca, Sgt. Sal Fama, Sgt. Mike Leung and Esther Betz.
South Brunswick Police Chief Raymond Hayducka praised the Community Policing Bureau for all its efforts. “Our community is always fast to respond to those in need. The outpouring of support to fill the food pantry's shelves is another great example. I am also thankful that so many families took advantage of Child ID Day,” said Chief Hayducka.
Chief Hayducka and Mayor Charlie Carley also shared a video highlighting last month's outstanding work during National Night Out. Both men asked the community to watch the video by Officer David Flanders highlighting what makes our community so special. Chief Hayducka added, "We can not wait to do it again next year!"
