SLPD Makes Arrests in May 2024 Homicide
 
San Leandro, CA - On Thursday, September 19^th, 2024, San Leandro Police detectives arrested 3 suspects wanted in connection with a homicide that occurred on Benedict Drive earlier this year in May. 
 
On May 5^th, around 6:30 p.m., 53-year-old Anderson Choy was pulling into the driveway of his home when 2 suspects, one of them armed with an AR-15 style firearm, approached his vehicle in an apparent robbery attempt.  As the suspects confronted Choy, one shot was fired into Choy’s vehicle, striking him in the neck.  Choy was pronounced deceased by medical personnel at the scene.
 
Through surveillance footage and other digital evidence, investigators were able to identify the suspects as brothers 18-year-old Erick Moreno and 28-year-old Mauricio Moreno, both residents of Hayward.  The brothers were taken into custody separately last Thursday during a joint operation between SLPD detectives and members of the Tactical Operations team.  A third suspect was initially arrested for being an accessory to the homicide but was released later the same day.
 
“This case is a testament to the tenacity and persistence of our detectives in seeking justice for the homicide victim,” said Lieutenant Abe Teng.  “A lot of time was spent painstakingly gleaning evidence and conducting surveillance to build a case strong enough to go beyond just making arrests.”
 
On Monday, September 23^rd, 2024, the Moreno brothers were both charged with murder by the Alameda County District Attorney’s Office.
