Newark Police Department Crime Blotter September 16 - 22, 2024
The Newark Police Department is releasing information about recent crime and police activity that has occurred within our community.
MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 16, 2024:
12:16 AM Officer Swadener investigated a residential burglary reported near Graham & Baine Avenues. A residential garage was reported entered with no known loss.
7:00 AM Officers were dispatched to multiple vehicle burglaries reported near Bayshores Park. Vehicle windows were smashed in, resulting in property loss of a garage door opener and loose change.
10:03 AM Community Services Officer (CSO) Lau responded to Newpark Mall Road to investigate a vehicle theft.
2:22 PM Officer Taylor was dispatched to a welfare check near Humber Place & Farnham Drive. A 57-year-old female was arrested for an outstanding warrant and booked into Santa Rita Jail.
7:03 PM Officer Soto responded to Hickory Street & Seawind Way for the report of a package theft.
TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 17, 2024:
6:56 AM Officer Berlanga was dispatched to a vehicle burglary on Balentine Drive & Mowry School Road. Entry was gained from a passenger window smash. A bag containing industrial equipment was reported taken.
9:19 AM CSO Lau investigated a package theft reported near Hickory Street & Seawind Way.
2:55 PM CSO Lau responded to an attempted vehicle burglary reported near Central Avenue & Hyacinth Street. The vehicle window was discovered shattered with no reported loss.
5:52 PM CSO Lau was dispatched to a commercial burglary reported at Central Avenue & Cherry Street.
9:09 PM Officer Soto investigated a package theft reported near Sycamore Street & Graham Avenue.
WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 18, 2024:
9:39 AM Officer Lor was flagged down for the report of a bicycle theft that occurred on Newpark Mall Road.
9:55 AM CSO Lau investigated a package theft reported near Hickory Street & Seawind Way.
3:01 PM CSO Lau was dispatched to a theft on Newpark Mall Road. A phone was reported taken from the restroom.
6:15 PM Officer Dale was dispatched to a suspicious vehicle reported near Cedar Boulevard & Cedar Court. A 43-year-old male was arrested for possession of narcotics and identifying information of others. He was booked into Santa Rita Jail.
6:39 PM Officer Soto responded to Newpark Mall Road and arrested a 62-year-old female for shoplifting. She was booked into Santa Rita Jail.
THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 19, 2024:
1:46 AM Officer Soto was dispatched to Mowry Avenue and Cherry Street for a vehicle collision. A 28-year-old male was arrested for driving under the influence and booked into Santa Rita Jail.
6:33 AM Officer S. Torres recovered a stolen vehicle found near Edgewater & Farnham Drives.
11:54 PM Officer McCuin investigated a battery near Cedar Boulevard & South Magazine Road.
3:07 PM CSO Lau was dispatched to Cherry Street & Robertson Avenue to investigate a residential burglary. The garage door was determined forced opened with unknown loss reported.
4:00 PM Officer S. Torres recovered a stolen vehicle on Lido Boulevard & Normandy Drive.
7:24 PM Officers Dale and Berlanga arrived at Seawind Way & Hickory Street for the report of multiple package thefts.
9:50 PM Officer Berlanga contacted a 46-year-old male on Newpark Mall Road who was discovered with outstanding warrants and possession of narcotics. He was arrested and booked into Santa Rita Jail.
FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 20, 2024:
1:16 AM Officer Pacheco conducted a traffic stop near Newark & Cedar Boulevards. A 24-year-old was arrested for driving under the influence and booked into Santa Rita Jail.
7:08 AM Officers were dispatched to Gateway Boulevard & Thornton Avenue to investigate vehicle burglaries. Loss reported as power tools, specialized industrial equipment.
SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 21, 2024:
12:50 AM Officer Wiliams was dispatched to Newark & Cedar Boulevards on the report of a disturbance. A 34-year-old male was arrested for vandalism and booked into Santa Rita Jail.
1:31 AM Officer Berlanga was dispatched to Balentine Drive & Mowry School Road for the report of a vehicle on fire. Upon investigation, it was determined a vandalism had occurred.
2:02 AM Officer Swadener investigated a vehicle theft recovered by a neighboring agency. The vehicle was reported taken from the area of Elm Street & Sunset Avenue.
3:36 AM Officer Stevenson was dispatched to Joaquin Murieta Avenue and Cherry Street for the theft of items from a vehicle. Loss included sunglasses, vehicle registration documents and a first aid kit.
8:45 AM Officer Orozco responded to Haley Street & Jarvis Avenue for a vehicle theft.
9:00 AM Officers are investigating multiple purse thefts reported on Cedar & Lake Boulevards.
9:34 PM Officer Williams initiated a traffic stop on Thornton Avenue & Sycamore Street. A 44-year-old male was arrested and booked into Santa Rita Jail for driving under the influence.
9:55 PM Officers responded to multiple fights near Cedar & Lake Boulevards. A 46-year-old male was arrested for battery and booked into Santa Rita Jail.
SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 22, 2024:

2:41 AM Officer Norvell arrested a 24-year-old male for public intoxication near Mayhews Landing Road & Fair Avenue.
5:47 AM Officer Williams arrested a 36-year-old male Cedar Boulevard & Mowry Avenue for driving under the influence. He was booked into Santa Rita Jail.
7:55 AM Officer Kim arrested a 41-year-old male for possession of narcotics while at Cedar Boulevard & St Isabel Avenue.
10:52 AM Officer Kim responded to Thornton Avenue & Locust Street for a domestic violence. A 30-year-old male was arrested for corporal injury, violating court orders and booked into Santa Rita Jail.
10:14 PM Officer Williams was dispatched to Newark Boulevard & Jarvis Avenue for a battery reported near the area. A 42-year-old male was arrested for battery and booked into Santa Rita Jail.
