Response to Non-Credible Social Media Post at Haledon Public School

Dear Haledon Public School Community,

On behalf of Mayor Michael Johnson, the Haledon Municipal Council, and Chief of Police Angelo J. Daniele, we want to address a recent social media post that raised concerns within Haledon Public School today. It is important to emphasize that law enforcement officials currently do not consider the threat credible. We commend our vigilant students for promptly bringing this matter to our attention, and we appreciate the swift response from school officials. We encourage parents and legal guardians to have conversations with their children about the serious legal implications of such pranks.

To alleviate any anxiety this incident may have caused, Chief of Police Angelo J. Daniele will be increasing patrols around Haledon Public School and the surrounding areas. Rest assured, our police detectives are also actively investigating this issue.

If anyone has information related to the post, we encourage you to reach out to Detective/Corporal Semir Celoski at [email protected] or [email protected].

We urge all community members to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity, including unwarranted pranks that disrupt our community. Together, we can ensure that Haledon remains a safe and nurturing environment for our children to learn and thrive.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

A Message from Chief School Administrator Mr. Chris Wacha

Dear HPS Community,

Since the beginning of this school year schools across both the State of New Jersey and the nation at large have seen a heavy uptick in regards to schools receiving anonymous threats of school violence via social media platforms. When this happens schools must take these matters seriously to determine if a threat is credible and then make appropriate decisions from there.

A potential online threat was reported to HPS this morning and our team has begun taking steps to investigate it. There appears to be absolutely zero evidence to suggest that this threat is credible. Nonetheless, the Haledon Police have been informed and through our SRO are helping to determine if we can identify the sender of this post so that we can take appropriate actions. These sort of fear mongering social media posts undermine all aspects of our school district and its operations. We do not take this lightly and we will explore all legal avenues open to us, including criminal prosecution, should we be able to identify the person that made this online post. The social media platform has been contacted and we have requested that the account be taken down as soon as possible.

Please feel free to email me, [email protected], should you have any questions.
