Sheriff Richard J. Behnke reports that on 09/25/2024 at 0151 hours, his office was called to investigate a shooting that occurred at 18089 State St., Village of Vandalia Cass County, Michigan. The investigation showed that two males were having a verbal argument when the argument turned physical. One male, a 24-year-old, was shot in the foot. The other male fled the scene before deputies arrived. The gunshot victim was transported to Elkhart General Hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. The suspect remains at large, and his name is being withheld at this time.  There is no public threat currently. This investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information about this incident is encouraged to call the Cass County Sheriff’s Office at 269-445-1560 or the Cass County Tip Line at 800-462-9328.  Assisting agencies included: Pokagon Tribal Police Department, Dowagiac Police Department, Michigan State Police, Cassopolis Police Department, SMCAS Ambulance and Penn Fire Department with a drone.
