SLPD Arrests Robbery Suspect
On September 23rd, 2024, just before 1 p.m., San Leandro Police responded to an armed robbery that occurred at Rite Aid, located at 1355 MacArthur Boulevard. The suspect, later identified as 23-year-old Kyimiereyae Jones of Oakland, was inside the business making a purchase at one of the checkout counters. During the transaction, Jones demanded money from the store clerk while lifting his sweatshirt to display a concealed handgun. The clerk complied and handed over cash to Jones before he fled the scene in his vehicle.
Utilizing Flock public safety cameras, SLPD detectives were able to quickly locate the suspect vehicle and track it to the 8400 block of Edgewater Drive in Oakland. Jones was taken into custody without incident a little over an hour after the robbery. A stolen handgun and some of the stolen cash were recovered from Jones’ person.
On September 24th, Jones was charged with robbery and weapon violations by the Alameda County District Attorney’s Office.
This case is one of the most recent examples of SLPD leveraging technology to be a force-multiplier in solving crimes. Flock public safety cameras are utilized almost daily by SLPD personnel in both proactive apprehensions and reactive investigations.
