Scam Calls faking that they are WPD members

This is a scam alert! We have received several reports that people are receiving unexpected calls from a male pretending that he is an officer at the Westlake Police Department. The scammer tries to scare the victim into buying gift cards or crypto currency to pay for "warrants." The criminal says that the victim missed jury duty or other obligation and that the police would look for them if they did not pay up!
NO LEGITIMATE agency would require someone to pay for bond, warrrants or other debt with gift cards, crypto currency or require mailed cash. If you receive an unexpected call, text, computer pop up or email - be vary wary of calling the provided phone number or clicking on a provided link. Always independently find a legitimate phone number for whomever is supposedly contacting you.
