Residential Burglary Advisory and Safety Tips

On September 25, 2024, at approximately 3:35 AM, the Deal Police Department was dispatched to a residence on Deal Esplanade in response to a report of a residential burglary. Upon investigation, it was determined that the perpetrators had smashed the front door window to
gain entry to the residence. The suspects then entered the first floor of the home.

The homeowner, awakened by the commotion, shouted at the intruders. Realizing the residence was occupied, the suspects fled the scene. Two high-end vehicles were parked in the driveway
at the time of the incident.

Similar burglaries have been reported by law enforcement agencies throughout Monmouth County.

The Deal Police Department is actively investigating this incident. If any member of the public has surveillance footage from the time period of this incident, please contact the Detective Bureau. You can reach Detective Nicholas Dowling at 732-531-1113 ext. 136 or via email at

Please remember to contact the Deal Police Department immediately if you notice anything suspicious. Delays in reporting may result in longer response times from our officers.

To assist all our communities, we would like to provide residents with the following safety tips to help prevent these types of residential burglaries.

1. Improve Home Security Measures

Locks: Ensure all doors and windows have sturdy, functioning locks. Use deadbolts on exterior doors and window bars if necessary.

Security Cameras: Install visible security cameras around your property. Cameras act as a deterrent and can provide valuable footage if a crime occurs.

Alarm Systems: Set up home alarm systems with motion detectors, window, and door sensors, and ensure they are activated when you leave your residences or sleeping.

Smart Doorbells: Use smart doorbells with cameras that can record anyone who approaches your home.

2. Increase Visibility Around Your Home

Outdoor Lighting: Install motion-activated lighting around your home, particularly near entrances, garages, and walkways.

Landscaping: Trim bushes, shrubs, and trees near windows and doors to eliminate hiding spots for potential burglars.

3. Prevent Common Entry Points

Garage Security: Always lock your garage door and side entry points, especially at night. Avoid leaving valuables or garage openers in vehicles parked outside.

Mail and Packages: Avoid letting mail and packages pile up, which signals no one is home. Use hold-mail services if you're away for an extended period.

4. Be Aware of Suspicious Activity

Suspicious Vehicles: Be on the lookout for unfamiliar vehicles circling the neighborhood or parked for extended periods.

Unknown Persons: Report unknown persons lingering in the area, especially if they appear to be checking out homes or peering into windows.

5. Practice Safe Habits

Lock Doors and Windows: Always lock doors and windows, even when your home. Many break-ins happen through unlocked entrances.

Don’t Broadcast Vacations: Avoid posting on social media about being away from home. Wait until after you return to share trip details.

Use Timers for Lights: If you're away, use timers for interior lights or smart home systems to give the impression someone is home.
