* Flash Flood Warning for... Carroll County in southwestern Virginia... Grayson County in southwestern Virginia... Smyth County in southwestern Virginia... Wythe County in southwestern Virginia... The City of Galax in southwestern Virginia...

* Until 230 PM EDT Friday.

* At 802 AM EDT, Doppler radar and automated rain gauges indicated thunderstorms producing heavy rain across the warned area. Between 5 and 8 inches of rain have fallen. The expected rainfall rate is 1 to 2 inches in 1 hour. Additional rainfall amounts of 3 to 5 inches are possible in the warned area. Flash flooding is already occurring. HAZARD...Life threatening flash flooding. Thunderstorms producing flash flooding. SOURCE...Radar and automated gauges. IMPACT...Life threatening flash flooding of creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses.

* Some locations that will experience flash flooding include... Wytheville... Galax... Marion... Hillsville... Saltville... Chilhowie... Rural Retreat... This includes the following streams and drainages... Big Reed Island Creek, Beaver Creek, Bear Branch, Big Horse Creek, Beaverdam Creek and Ararat River.

River banks and culverts can become unstable and unsafe.
