* Flash Flood Warning for... Catawba County in the piedmont of North Carolina... Cleveland County in the piedmont of North Carolina... Gaston County in the piedmont of North Carolina... Lincoln County in the piedmont of North Carolina...

* Until 200 PM EDT.

* At 836 AM EDT, Doppler radar and automated rain gauges indicated storms producing heavy rain across the warned area. The heaviest rainfall has ended, but stream gauges continue to show rising levels in response to extensive overnight rainfall. Between 3 and 6 inches of rain have fallen. Flash flooding is ongoing and will continue across the area. HAZARD...Life threatening flash flooding. Thunderstorms producing flash flooding. SOURCE...Radar and automated gauges. IMPACT...Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other poor drainage and low-lying areas. A few road closures.

* Some locations that will experience flash flooding include... Gastonia, Huntersville, Hickory, Shelby, Newton, Lincolnton, Northwest Charlotte, Cornelius, Kings Mountain, Mt Holly, St. Stephens, Belmont, Conover, Cherryville, Bessemer City, South Gastonia, Longview, Boiling Springs NC, Dallas and Maiden.

Instructions:

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. Be aware of your surroundings and do not drive on flooded roads. In hilly terrain there are hundreds of low water crossings which are potentially dangerous in heavy rain. Do not attempt to cross flooded roads. Find an alternate route.
