Press Release: Fairfield Police, School District Investigate Golden West Student Following References to Firearm
Yesterday, 26 September, at around 5 pm, Fairfield police learned a student at Golden West Middle School had indicated a desire to bring a firearm on campus.
While speaking with a friend, the 12-year-old boy allegedly shared his intent to carry the weapon to school for protection, following a dispute with another student. Upon receiving this information, officers immediately began investigating.
Although the reporter had only been able to provide the student’s first name, Officer Moran, the school resource officer assigned to Golden West, worked quickly and closely with school administrators within the Travis Unified School District to identify the student.
The student was contacted at his residence in Vacaville. Officers spoke with his parents, who have been fully cooperative with the ongoing investigation. Following a search, a replica firearm was located. Investigators have no reason to believe the replica firearm was ever on school grounds.
Due to the nature of the crime and the restrictions regarding booking minors into Juvenile Hall, the child was cited and released to his parents. The student will not attend school while school administration continue their investigation. Anyone with information related to this matter should contact Golden West administration.
A note regarding the issuance of a citation: A citation serves as notice that, while not immediately remanded to Juvenile Hall, the minor must deal with the repercussions of their actions. Depending upon the nature of the crime, once a juvenile/minor is issued a citation, the District Attorney’s Office may elect to file charges, and the child may be required to attend a diversion hearing and/or placed on probation.
