NARRATIVE: On September 25th 2024, Officers responded to a report of a motor vehicle burglary that had occurred during the overnight hours on Oak Knoll Road. During the initial investigation, several other residents reported that their vehicles were also burglarized. The next day (September 26th 2024), Officers responded to several more motor vehicle burglaries that had occurred during the overnight hours in the Cedar Village development. On both dates, Detectives responded and processed the vehicles for forensic evidence. Detectives were able to obtain surveillance video from several homes that captured the suspect committing the burglaries. The suspect was seen on both nights on surveillance video riding a very distinctive bicycle while committing these crimes. Motor vehicle burglaries were reported on Oak Tree Lane, Fieldstone Lane, Roller Road, Deal Road, McKinley Drive, Jefferson Drive, and Sequoia Parkway.
While in the area of the Fernwood Motel on Rt. 66 in Neptune Sergeant Jesse Orbach observed a bicycle matching the description of the one ridden by the suspect and the suspect near one of the motel rooms. Sergeant Orbach continued to conduct surveillance of the suspect, who eventually left the motel and was stopped by officers from the Neptune Police Department for an outstanding warrant. Sergeant Orbach assisted during the stop and the suspect, now identified as Kevin Alberto Mendoza-Salgado, was placed under arrest by OTPD. Mendoza-Salgado was transported to headquarters for processing. Detectives Clune, Schoch and Officer Hoover Cano III responded to interview Mendoza-Salgado.
During the interview, Mendoza-Salgado admitted to committing several motor vehicle burglaries during the previous two nights. He was charged with several counts of burglary, theft and possession of burglar’s tools.
