ARRESTS MADE IN LANDSCAPE EQUIPMENT THEFT RING

After a several month-long investigation, two suspects were arrested and charged in connection with numerous thefts of landscape equipment in the Metro-Detroit area.  A task force comprised of Harper Woods, Grosse Pointe Woods, Grosse Pointe Farms, Grosse Pointe City, Grosse Pointe Park, Detroit, and Roseville Detectives conducted a joint investigation to combat the theft of landscape equipment in the area.

As early as May of 2024, the suspects have been targeting landscape crews who were in the community cutting grass.  The suspects would wait until the workers were in rear yards or out of sight then steal as much lawn equipment as they could from the landscape trucks and/or trailers.  In numerous incidents, the suspects would steal the entire landscape truck and trailer when the keys were left in the vehicle.  The suspects had buyers for the stolen equipment lined up and would sell the stolen equipment for profit.

On Monday September 23, 2024 Leon Lindsey and Levi Lindsey, 25-year-old twin brothers from Detroit, were formally charged and arraigned after their arrest by task force members.  The complaint, authorized by the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office, outlined 23 felony charges to include conducting a criminal enterprise which alone holds a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison.  Leon Lindsey was given a $150,000.00 cash bond.  Levi Lindsey was given a $100,000.00 cash bond.  Their Preliminary Examinations are scheduled for October 09, 2024 at 1:30 p.m. in the Harper Woods 32-A District Court.

After the arrests of Leon and Levi Lindsey, a search warrant was executed at their residence in Detroit.  Approximately 50 items of lawn equipment, all believed to be stolen property, were recovered.  Detectives are in the process of identifying ownership of the suspected stolen items.  Several additional suspects have been identified and additional arrests and charges are anticipated.
