Emergency personnel are working around the clock to reach injured and trapped flood victims. McDowell County 911 received over 760 calls for service during this storm. Multiple areas in McDowell are still inaccessible to emergency personnel. Mutual aid agencies from all across NC are assisting McDowell County respond to this disaster. A mass casualty bus, multiple out of county ambulances, National Guard personnel, Urban Search and Rescue Teams, and state law enforcement are supporting local fire, rescue, EMS, and law enforcement. Heavy construction equipment is being used to access several critical incidents. National Guard and Coast Guard aircraft were not able to fly this evening and assist ground personnel with airlifts of injured patients. Aircraft will attempt to fly on Saturday morning. Emergency personnel will not stop until every person is rescued. Please help us by staying off the roads unless you have an emergency.
Over 20,000 locations are without power in McDowell County. Cell phone towers and other infrastructure continues to have outages.
