Flood Warning until 11:00AM
* WHAT...Urban area and small stream flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues.
* WHERE...A portion of southwest Virginia, including the following counties, Grayson and Smyth.
* WHEN...Until 1100 AM EDT.
* IMPACTS...Flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations is imminent or occurring. Numerous roads remain closed due to flooding. It will take several hours for all the water from these storms to work through local drainage systems in urban areas.
* ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - At 857 AM EDT, Doppler radar and automated rain gauges indicated heavy rain due to thunderstorms. Flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly in the warned area. Between 6 and 9 inches of rain have fallen. - This includes the following streams and drainages... Beaverdam Creek, Big Horse Creek, Bridle Creek, Campbell Creek, Comers Creek, Brush Creek, Beaver Creek, Bull Run, Bear Branch, Chestnut Creek and Blue Spring Creek. Flooding impacts will continue, but no additional rainfall is expected. - Some locations that will experience flooding include... Galax, Marion, Saltville, Chilhowie, Independence, Fries and Sugar Grove. - http://www.weather.gov/safety/flood

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. Stay away or be swept away. River banks and culverts can become unstable and unsafe.
