Flood Warning until 01:00PM

* WHAT...Urban area and small stream flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues.

* WHERE...A portion of southwest Virginia, including the following counties, Grayson and Smyth.

* WHEN...Until 100 PM EDT.

* IMPACTS...Flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations is occurring. Numerous roads remain closed due to flooding. It will take several hours for all the water from these storms to work through local drainage systems in urban areas.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - At 1049 AM EDT, Emergency management reported flooding is ongoing. Between 6 and 9 inches of rain have fallen. - This includes the following streams and drainages... Beaverdam Creek, Big Horse Creek, Bridle Creek, Campbell Creek, Comers Creek, Brush Creek, Beaver Creek, Bull Run, Bear Branch, Chestnut Creek and Blue Spring Creek. Flooding impacts will continue, but no additional rainfall is expected. - Some locations that will experience flooding include... Galax, Marion, Saltville, Chilhowie, Independence, Fries and Sugar Grove. - http://www.weather.gov/safety/flood

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. Stay away or be swept away. River banks and culverts can become unstable and unsafe. When it is safe to do so, please send your reports of flooding, including mudslides or flooded roads, to the National Weather Service by calling toll free at 1...8 6 6...2 1 5...4 3 2 4.
