Helene Recovery Updates
As we continue to clean up from Hurricane Helene, here are a few quick updates:
- Regularly scheduled garbage collection will resume tomorrow. You will be picked up on your normal pick-up day if you were missed last week. You may also dispose of your garbage and recycling at the Rural Waste Collection Center (RCC) 16935 NW US HWY 441. The High Springs RCC is open 7:30am – 5:30 pm every Monday, Tuesday, Friday, & Saturday, and 12:30-5:30, Wednesday and Thursday.
- Storm debris removal will begin tomorrow, September 30th. Please leave your debris pile on the side of the road, clear of trees, utility poles, etc. The normal size restrictions are lifted. Pressure-treated wood, fencing, roofing, etc. are NOT permitted. This is for yard debris ONLY. The City of High Springs and local city contractors will conduct debris removal. Due to a large number of trees still down, debris removal will take several days. Please be patient.
- High Springs Community School will open tomorrow.
- Power restoration efforts are ongoing. Duke Energy expects to have a majority of customers up by midnight tonight. Clay Electric estimates all Alachua County customers to be restored by 10PM Tuesday.
- If you see a tree down blocking the road, call 352-955-1818. If you see a downed power line, dial 911.
