SUSPECT: Willian Lazaro Cruz, a 25-year-old resident of Fontana
SUMMARY: On Sunday, September 29, 2024, at about 2:05 a.m., a Fontana Station deputy witnessed Willian Lazaro Cruz, a 25-year-old resident of Fontana, driving without headlamps at night, and weaving. The deputy believed Lazaro Cruz was likely driving while intoxicated and attempted a traffic stop. Lazaro Cruz failed to yield and deputies pursued him. Lazaro Cruz exceeded the speed limit, crossed the double yellow line, drove without headlamps or taillamps, drove onto a dirt shoulder where he nearly lost control, and suddenly stopped, near the intersection of Merrill Avenue and Poplar Avenue, where he nearly struck a parked vehicle.
Lazaro Cruz and the other occupants of the vehicle were taken into custody. Lazaro Cruz was determined to be driving while intoxicated and was found to be unlicensed. He was arrested and booked into jail for felony evading, driving while intoxicated, and driving without a license.
