Annual Allowable Rent Increase – Council Member Kim-Chohan reported that the Borough’s Rent Control Board approved the annual allowable rent increase for 2025. The calculation, which is based Consumer Price Index (CPI) data for the New York and Philadelphia Metro areas, came to 3.55 percent. Neighborhood Forum, 10/8 – Mayor Foster announced that the first in a series of Bringing Government to Your Community Forums will take place on Tuesday, October 8th from 6:30 to 7:30 pm on Merilind Ave next to the Irving School. The theme of this forum will be public safety and the Mayor and Borough Council will be there to listen to concerns and ideas along with members of the Highland Park Police Department, Fire Department, and First Aid Squad.
Zoning Map Update – The Borough Council introduced an ordinance to update the Borough’s zoning map to reflect recent redevelopment plans approved by the Borough Council, the Stream Corridor Protection Overlay Zone, and changes to the Commercial Business District (CBD), Professional Office (PO), and Conservation/Recreation (CR) Zones that went into effect in 2004. A public hearing and vote on this ordinance will be held at the October 15th meeting of the Mayor and Borough Council.
Security Upgrades at Recreation Complex - The Borough Council approved a resolution to award a contract to Open Systems Integrators, Inc. for upgrades to the existing security systems at the Recreation Complex located behind the Highland Park High School and Middle School. The security upgrades will include the installation of new cameras in five locations to provide better coverage of the new track and turf field.
Appointment of New Tax Assessor – The Borough Council appointed of Logan Ortutay as the Borough’s new part-time Tax Assessor. Logan replaces Thomas Mancusco, who retired on September 30th after seventeen years of service in the role. We thank Tom for his dedication to the Borough and wish him well in his upcoming adventures!
