Sheriff Richard J. Behnke reports that on October 2, 2024, at approximately 1648 Hours, his Deputies of the Cass County Sheriff's Office responded to a two vehicle crash, at the intersection of  M-62 and Brownsville St., Jefferson Township, Cass County, Michigan.  
 
The initial investigation showed that  Bruce Cassady (69 yrs. of Edwardsburg, MI) was traveling Southbound on M-62 when Abeni Brown (49 yrs. of Niles, MI) was stopped at the stop sign on Brownsville St., failed to yield to oncoming traffic, and attempted to go westbound onto Hospital St. Brown was struck by Cassady's vehicle at the intersection. Brown was transported by SMCAS ambulance to Lakeland Niles Hospital for injuries sustained in the crash. Both drivers were wearing seat-belts at the time of the crash.
 
Drugs and alcohol are not believed to be a contributing factor in this crash.
 
Assisting agencies on scene were Cass Central Fire and  SMCAS Ambulance.
