Wilmington Police have arrested a man on gun charges.
On September 29, at approximately 1:24 p.m., members of the Uniformed Services Division were in the 200 block of West 24th Street, when they observed a male subject acting in a suspicious manner. Police attempted to make contact with the subject, who fled on foot and discarded a firearm. Following a brief foot pursuit, police took 22-year-old Mustafa Wescott into custody without incident, and recovered a loaded 9mm handgun that had previously been reported stolen.
Wescott has been charged with the following offenses:
- Possession of a Firearm or Ammunition by a Person Prohibited – Two Counts
- Carrying a Concealed Deadly Weapon
- Reckless Endangering (First Degree)
- Tampering with Physical Evidence
- Receiving Stolen Property Under $1,500
- Resisting Arrest
He was arraigned in the New Castle County Court of Common Pleas and was committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution pending further proceedings.
