Detectives with the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Office are currently conducting a death investigation.
On 10/03/24 @ about 7:30 am, a passer-by reported what appeared to be human remains in the canal near Garst & Church in unincorporated Modesto.
Members of the fire department helped to remove the body from the water.
The circumstances of this person’s death are being examined by our coroner’s office and detectives with MCU. We are still awaiting positive identification.
The cause and manner of death will be determined after a forensic autopsy.
No further information can be released at this time, as our death investigation is active & on-going.
