On October 3, 2024, at approximately 5:50 a.m., Fremont Police Officers responded to the area of Mission Boulevard (State Route 262) and Warm Springs Boulevard to the report of a major injury vehicle collision involving a bus and a pedestrian. Fremont Officers arrived on scene and located a person deceased in the roadway.
The Fremont Police Department Traffic Investigations Unit responded and assumed the collision investigation. The preliminary investigation reveals that during the early morning hours of darkness, a male pedestrian was standing in the eastbound lanes of Mission Boulevard when a passenger bus traveling eastbound collided with the pedestrian. It appears the pedestrian was then struck by additional vehicles.
The driver of the passenger bus, as well as the drivers of the additional vehicles remained at the scene and are cooperating with the investigation. The cause of the collision is still under investigation, but drug or alcohol impairment does not appear to be a factor.
The Alameda County Coroner's Office responded to recover the decedent. The deceased pedestrian has not yet been identified.
This is Fremont’s ninth fatal traffic collision in 2024. Five (5) have occurred on city roadways, three (3) have occurred on State Routes, and one (1) on private property.
