Hurricane Milton Update #01
Hurricane Milton, a category 1 hurricane, is expected to intensify as it moves east across the Gulf of Mexico, before making landfall somewhere along the SW Florida coast on Wednesday, potentially as a major hurricane.
Locally, Milton has the potential to produce periods of heavy rain, and strong gusty winds. Currently, 4-6 inches of rain is forecast, with some areas receiving more. Shifts in Milton's track, north or south, will likely affect these amounts.
Additionally, trees already weakened from Hurricane Helene and a saturated ground are at risk of falling as a result of strong winds from Milton.
Power outages are a strong possibility. Please prepare yourself and your family by having enough food, water and supplies to last several days. Charge devices, and have battery operated flashlights available. Find a full list of essentials at ready.gov/kits.
The City of High Springs will begin offering sandbags on Monday, October 7th from 12PM-6PM at Memorial Park, 17380 NW US HWY 441. This is a self-serve site, please bring your own shovel. Strict limit of 10. Please be considerate of your neighbors, and only take what you need.
