Third-quarter water bills are in the mail- usage is up 22%
Third-quarter water bills are in the mail- Overall, third-quarter Borough water usage was 22% more than the same period last year. Due to less rainfall than the summer of 2023, water usage dramatically increased mainly due to excessive use of water sprinklers. It is a property owner’s responsibility to monitor and maintain their sprinkler system. There have been residences where it was determined sprinklers were running for hours at a time for multiple consecutive days, resulting in a very high water bill. It appears that in many cases that Borough water restrictions for the summer have not been observed.
Other possible sources of high water bill could be from a running toilet, a water softener or home humidifier. To assist in diagnosing the issue, a data log for your home can be performed for the fee of $25 that reports hourly usage for the past 90 days from the day the data log is taken. To place an order for a data log, you can email the water department at [email protected]
