Mayor Purzycki, Chief Campos Announce Application Deadline Extension for the 104th Wilmington Police Academy:
Wilmington Mayor Mike Purzycki and Chief of Police Wilfredo Campos announced today that the application deadline for the 104th Wilmington Police Academy has been extended to Friday, November 1.
Additionally, the age limit previously in place for police applicants – which was set at 37 – has been lifted following an agreement between the City and Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 1.
The starting salary for selected applicants is $65,000, which increases each year to reach $87,929 in year five. There is no residency requirement for new police officers.
To learn more about becoming a Wilmington police officer, contact Sgt. Aaron Metzner at (302) 576-3177 or (302) 379-2270, or email him at [email protected]. You can also visit the WPD recruitment webpage at www.WilmingtonDE.gov/PoliceAcademy. The initial screening process will include a written exam, a physical ability test, and interview panels which will include a Chief’s interview.
“We hope that lifting the age limit on applicants will expand the range of applicants for our next academy, while providing more people with the chance to join our agency,” said Chief Campos. He noted that the department has received inquiries from prospective applicants who were close to the age limit, and some who were considering law enforcement as a second career following military service or careers in other industries.
