Precautionary Boil Advisory issued after water main break
The water main break near Plaza Drive and Commercial Street has been contained.
While the break occurred in a private line in the Landmark Plaza shopping center, it was a large enough break to reduce pressure down to zero for many homes and businesses in the northwestern portion of Harrisonville.
Per the Missouri Department of Natural Resources, a break that reduces pressure in a water main down to zero will require a precautionary and temporary boil advisory.
That said, a precautionary boil advisory has been issued for all homes and businesses north of Mechanic Street and west of Independence Street or Jefferson Parkway.
Please understand, this boil advisory is a precaution. There is no requirement for residents to boil their drinking water. If you have water that appears discolored or dirty, staff recommend boiling the water before drinking it/making ice. Water is not required to be boiled as a part of the advisory.
The advisory will last until testing can be completed to determine that no contaminates are found in the water. This can take about 48 hours.
If you are boiling your water, only boil water used for food preparation, teeth brushing, ice making and drinking. Bring water to a rolling boil for 3 minutes, which is enough to ensure the water is safe to consume. Please remember to let the water cool before use.
Remember, water can be used for bathing, laundry and dishes without being boiled.
The City will make an announcement when this precautionary and temporary advisory has been officially lifted.
This is an advisory only. Boiling water is not required.
