Weather Update #2: Hurricane Milton
Weather Update #1: Hurricane Milton
Hurricane Milton is slated to make landfall this afternoon in Florida and impacts will begin to be felt in our area early Thursday morning as it moves across the state.
It is strongly recommended Island residents and businesses remain prepared for the likelihood of power outages, downed trees, blocked roadways, isolated flooding, or other storm impacts.
Beginning early tomorrow morning, it is advised to stay off roadways unless necessary due to high wind gusts and the potential for downed trees and isolated flooding. Crews will assess and clear debris as long as it is deemed safe for them to do so.
Residents and businesses should also reference Georgia Power's outage map for real-time updates - outagemap.georgiapower.com
There are no Jekyll Island evacuations or road/causeway closures planned at this time. Conditions are continuing to be monitored and additional updates will be communicated as needed. Georgia DOT is also monitoring the Sidney Lanier Bridge for the potential of sustained wind gusts over 40 mph. Should any closures be needed, they will be announced as they are known.
