Fire Breaks Out in Laundry Facility at Glen Helen Rehabilitation Center, Cause Under Investigation

LOCATION: Glen Helen Rehabilitation Center, 18000 Institution Road, San Bernardino
SUMMARY: On Thursday, October 10, 2024, at approximately 9:53 a.m., maintenance personnel at Glen Helen Rehabilitation Center noticed smoke emanating from the facility’s laundry building. Deputies immediately began efforts to suppress fire inside the building and San Bernardino County Fire was notified. Firefighters responded and were able to knockdown the fire quickly and keep it from spreading to other buildings.
The cause of the fire is under investigation by San Bernardino County Fire Investigators and Sheriff’s Arson/Bomb Detail. No inmates or employees were in the laundry facility at the time of the fire and no injuries were sustained during the incident.
As recently announced, Glen Helen Rehabilitation Center is in the beginning stages of a remodel. Less than 50 inmates are currently housed at the facility and are in the process of being rehoused in one of the county’s other jail facilities.
