Newark Police Department Crime Blotter: Monday October 7 - Sunday October 13, 2024

The Newark Police Department is releasing information about recent crime and police activity that has occurred within our community. 
 
MONDAY, OCTOBER 7, 2024:
 
2:46 AM Officer Williams responded to a disturbance near Mowry Avenue & Alpine Street. A 20-year-old male was arrested and booked into Santa Rinta Jail for threats.
 
6:42 AM Officer Orozco investigated a vehicle theft near Cherry Street & Plummer Avenue.
 
9:09 AM Community Service Officer (CSO) Lau investigated a vehicle burglary near Cedar Boulevard & Civic Terrace Avenue. The vehicle door was forcibly opened, and power tools were taken.
 
10:04 AM CSO Lau responded to a late report of a vehicle theft near Central Avenue & Byington Drive. It was determined the vehicle had already been recovered prior to being reported stolen, and it was released to the owner.
 
11:08 AM Officer Dale contacted a male near Newark & Cedar Boulevards. The 43-year-old male was booked into Santa Rita Jail for violating the terms of his probation and possession of narcotics. He was booked into Santa Rita Jail.
 
11:38 AM Officer Jackman investigated a vehicle theft near Mayhews Landing Road & Newark Boulevard. The vehicle was recovered by a neighboring agency.
 
5:25 PM CSO Lau investigated a license plate theft near Central Avenue & California Street.
 
7:04 PM Officer Cervantes investigated a report of a package theft near Willow Street & Mahogany Place.
 
TUESDAY, OCTOBER 8, 2024:
 
1:24 AM Officer Swadener responded to a vehicle burglary near Newark Boulevard & Dumbarton Court. Through investigation, it was determined a rock was used to smash the rear window and power tools were reported taken.
 
7:12 AM Officer Dale responded to the report of a fire observed at Stevenson & Cedar Boulevards.  A 29-year-old male was arrested for possession of narcotics and booked into Santa Rita Jail.
 
7:56 AM Officer Lor conducted a welfare check near Birch Street & Baine Avenue. A 35-year-old male was discovered to have an outstanding warrant. He was arrested and booked into Santa Rita Jail.
 
9:35 AM Officer Herrera responded to Haley Street & Jarvis Avenue for the report of vandalism to a motor vehicle. A hole was discovered on a vehicle’s chassis and fuel was observed taken from the reservoir. While on scene, Officer Herrera was flagged down and responded to a male nearby ingesting narcotics. The 47-year-old male was discovered to have an outstanding warrant. He was arrested and released on scene with a citation.
 
9:59 AM Officer Lor responded to a report of a non-responsive person inside a vehicle near Mowry Avenue & Cedar Boulevard. Upon investigation, a 43-year-old female was arrested for public intoxication and was booked into Santa Rita Jail.
 
1:43 PM Officers were dispatched to multiple vehicle burglaries throughout the city. Reported losses included mail.
 
3:38 PM Officer Piquette responded to a theft reported near Newark Boulevard & Jarvis Avenue. A 34-year-old male was discovered walking nearby in possession of the stolen item. He was arrested and booked into Santa Rita Jail for theft, resisting arrest, and possession of narcotics.
 
7:18 PM Officer Cervantes responded to a vehicle burglary reported near Cedar Boulevard & Thornton Avenue. A suitcase containing clothing and documents was reported taken from the vehicle.
 
8:24 PM Officer Lara was dispatched to multiple bicycle thefts reported near Lido Boulevard & Lido Court.
 
9:26 PM Officers responded to a disturbance at a business near Thorton Avenue & Saint Edwards Street. An 18-year-old male was arrested for an outstanding warrant. A license plate and a stolen vehicle were also recovered nearby as a result of the investigation.
 
WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 9, 2024:
 
11:07 AM CSO Lau investigated a package theft that occurred near Newark Boulevard & Lafayette Avenue.
 
1:42 PM CSO Lau responded to a shoplifting incident on Newpark Mall Road. Later, a 28-year-old male was arrested by a neighboring agency during a traffic stop. Upon investigation, he was determined to be in possession of the stolen items and was booked into Santa Rita Jail for grand theft.
 
10:13 PM Officer Dale conducted a traffic stop on Newpark Mall Road for expired registration. A 48-year-old male was discovered with narcotics. He was arrested and subsequently booked into Santa Rita Jail.
 
 
THURSDAY, OCTOBER 10, 2024:
 
5:47 AM Officers were dispatched to multiple vehicle burglaries throughout the city. Entry was gained by drilling door handles or window smash. Current reported loss includes tools.
 
6:38 AM Officer Medina investigated multiple vehicle burglaries reported on Newpark Mall Road. Entry was determined through window break-in; loss is currently unknown.
 
1:03 PM Officer S. Torres responded to a theft reported at Newpark Mall Road.
 
2:22 PM Officer Berlanga responded to a disturbance near Mowry Avenue and Cedar Boulevard. A 38-year-old female was arrested for battery and public intoxication. She was booked into Santa Rita Jail.
 
FRIDAY, OCTOBER 11, 2024:
 
2:40 AM Officer Shaffer investigated a vehicle theft near Cedar Boulevard & Mowry School Road.
 
2:50 AM Officer Diaz-Perez responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle near Orleans Drive & Rochelle Avenue. A 42-year-old male was arrested and released with a citation for false vehicle registration.
 
8:09 AM Officer C. Torres investigated an attempted vehicle theft near Joaquin Murieta Avenue & Cherry Street.
 
9:30 AM Officer Leath investigated a vehicle burglary near Jarvis Avenue & Gateway Boulevard. A bag containing electronics was reported taken from the vehicle.
 
9:48 AM Officer Orozco was on routine patrol near Sycamore Street and contacted a 44-year-old male in possession of narcotics. He was arrested and booked into Santa Rita Jail.
 
11:35 AM Officer Medina investigated a vehicle burglary near Fernwood Drive & Fig Tree Lane. The rear door had been forced open resulting in the loss of a bag containing tools.
 
8:56 PM Officer Kim was dispatched to a vehicle theft occurring near Central Avenue & Filbert Street. It was determined the vehicle was already recovered prior to being reported stolen and was released to the owner.
 
SATURDAY, OCTOBER 12, 2024:
 
9:48 AM Officer Lomeli conducted a welfare check near Jarvis Avenue & Newark Boulevard. A 38-year-old female was arrested for child endangerment and narcotics. She was booked into Santa Rita Jail.
 
10:07 AM Officer Orozco conducted a welfare check near Cedar Boulevard & Mowry School Road. A 52-year-old male was discovered with an outstanding warrant. He was arrested and booked into Santa Rita Jail.
 
1:42 PM Officer Leath investigated a license plate theft near Sycamore Street & Clark Avenue.
 
6:45 PM Officer Kim responded to a robbery on Newpark Mall Road.
 
10:24 PM Officer Williams was on routine patrol near Enterprise Drive. A 40-year-old male was arrested for possession of narcotics, and a violation of probation and court orders. He was booked into Santa Rita Jail.
 
SUNDAY, OCTOBER 13, 2024:
 
1:00 AM Officer Stevenson observed an active fire while on routine patrol near Central Avenue & Willow Street. A 60-year-old male was arrested and booked into Santa Rita Jail for arson.
 
4:51 AM Officer Swadener responded to a report of suspicious activity near Jarvis Avenue & Newark Boulevard. A 44-year-old male was arrested for theft of utilities, possession of narcotics, and identity theft. He was booked into Santa Rita Jail.
 
11:54 AM Officer Lomeli investigated a vehicle burglary on Cedar Boulevard & Thornton Avenue. A secure container was cut open and multiple power tools were taken.
