CRIME PREVENTION TIPS - SOCIAL MEDIA HYGIENE

Why is it important?
  •  Clean-up Your Digital Past: Sift through all your social networking accounts, such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, Tumblr, Snapchat, TikTok, and other online communities, and delete ALL the posts, comments, tags, and reactions that could impact your personal or professional life.
  • NEVER Share Personal Identifiable Information (PII) Online: Limit what information you post on social media and think twice before you post.
  • Strengthen Privacy and Security Settings: Turning your profiles to “private” gives you more control over your information. Connect only with people you trust, and ALWAYS treat your social media posts as if they are public.
  • “If You Connect IT, Protect IT:” Network-connected devices are subject to virus and malware threats. Thus, protect your devices with the latest software updates and patches, along with anti-virus software.
  • Implement Two-factor Authentication: Two-factor authentication adds an extra layer of protection to your devices and accounts.
  • Do Not Reuse Passwords: Maintaining strong passwords can be a daunting task; however, a good password manager can help simplify this process.
  • Take Social Media Hygiene Seriously: Remember, it's not secure without you. Recent incidents have highlighted social media vulnerabilities are real; however, with some simple adjustments and considerations, you can minimize your Internet profile and protect you and your family.
