Spray Painter Arrested for Felony Vandalism
Juvenile was arrested in connection with spray painted gang graffiti.
San Mateo, CA – On October 12, 2024, at 1:00 p.m., San Mateo Police Officers arrested a juvenile male in connection with four different felony graffiti vandalisms that occurred in August. The juvenile also had four active warrants for his arrest. The juvenile was booked into Hillcrest Juvenile Detention Facility.
San Mateo Police Department was notified on August 11, 2024 of graffiti that was freshly spray painted at the Martin Luther King Center, located at 725 Monte Diablo Avenue. Officers responded to the park and found the graffiti on the exterior walls of the bathrooms in the middle of the park. The distinct graffiti was gang related and matched three other reported vandalism cases that were previously reported to SMPD.
Newly placed security cameras located at the Martin Luther King Center captured the suspect as he spray painted the gang graffiti on the bathroom walls. During the investigation, officers were able to identify the suspect on the video footage. Officers continued the investigation gathering more evidence and on October 12 arrested the juvenile suspect. The suspect was transported and booked into Hillcrest Juvenile Detention Facility.

594(a)(1) PC- Four counts of felony vandalism, 978.5 PC- Warrant for arrest.
