Campbell Police Department Recent Arrests: Stolen Electronics for Resale

Campbell Police Officers arrested two suspects in connection with receiving and selling stolen electronics from their store front.

On Saturday, October 12th CPD received a call for service about laptops stolen from a research lab pinging their location at the iTek Mobile Repair shop on South Bascom Avenue. In addition to the laptops location pinging at iTek Mobile Repair, officers observed the reported stolen goods available for purchase on the store’s website.

Officers identified the store owner, Thu Van Ho, 31, and Thanh Nguyen, 32, both of San Jose were aware the products they received were stolen and had the intention to resell them after they wiped them of previous data. It was also discovered that stolen electronics were being packaged in the store to be shipped to Hong Kong for sale overseas.

Upon completing a search of the store, officers seized 29 boxes of computers, phones, and iPads/tablets suspected to be stolen property. Roughly 500 laptops were found in the store. 
 
Ho was taken into custody on charges of receiving stolen property, conspiracy to commit a crime, violation of probation, and committing a felony while out on bail. At the time of his arrest, Ho was already on probation and out on bail for a previous offense involving stolen goods. Nguyen was arrested for receiving stolen property, conspiracy to commit a crime, and had an outstanding warrant for a related offense.

Currently, Ho is out on bail, while Nguyen remains in custody.

Officers and our Property and Evidence Specialist are working to confirm the ownership of the seized items. If you have had an electronic device stolen, please file a report including a detailed description and the serial number of the device with the jurisdiction the theft occurred in. This information will help officers return recovered items to their rightful owners
